Over 80% of NHS trust committee and board members are faced with a paperwork burden, results of eShare survey finds

If you find meeting management a challenge, and you think that paperwork and administration is a burden for your committee and board members, then you are not alone.  81% of respondents to our recent survey agreed that their committee and board members are faced with a paperwork burden, and two-thirds said that meeting management and administration is time consuming.

Specialised software to manage ensure effective management of meeting, including pre-and-post meeting actions, with functions including task alerts, can be of great benefit to board and committee members.  Many NHS trusts are now looking at the solutions offered by specialist providers, and widely adopted in other trust-based sectors.

NHS South East EssexNHS Trust implements eMeetings Pilot

NHS South East Essex has selected eShare eMeetings to manage all board and sub-committee meetings.  The pilot has been deployed and with training complete, the trust is in the process of using the system for their first meeting.

Viv Barnes, Associate Director of Corporate Governance, NHS SEE comments "I saw immediately the advantages that eMeetings would offer in speeding up the process of preparing for board meetings and sub-committees. From the start it will make collation and distribution of board packs much easier. And it will put board members in control - enabling them to access agendas and papers at their convenience, instead of receiving large amounts of paperwork in the post or on email."

"That is just the start" said Viv and continues, "We see further benefits and plan to use eMeetings to manage pre- and post-meeting actions. We are also investigating eDecisions as a tool to help with decisions between meetings."

HSJ 5th Annual NHS Governance Forum
This was the first time that eShare attended a Health sector event, and we really enjoyed meeting you and hearing your views.  The presentations were thought-provoking and stimulating.

For us the highlight was the recommendation by Professor Paul Stanton, reiterated by a number of other speakers, for the putting in place of a company secretariat function to strengthen board effectiveness.
